10 YEAR CHALLENGE : A CHALLENGE OR A DIGITAL SCAM..??

If you spend a lot of your valuable time on Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram you may have encountered with 1st viral challenge of 2019 #10year challenge.

This is the latest social media craze involves posting a contemporary photo of yourself alongside another from ten years ago. Like all good viral crazes, it’s visually interesting, conceptually simple, easy to do and replete with opportunities for poignancy, reflection, virtue signalling , celebrity humble bragging, commentary and humour.

So many celebirities from all over the world posting their photos using hashtag #10yearchallenge.

Now a days Social media platforms are becoming an easy way for people to get famous. This is reducing the thinking power of them of what they should post or what not.

We now know that the pox of Facebook quizzes, turned out to be a giant data-gobbling bait and switch by Cambridge Analytica. The wound of that scam are still fresh, and  I suspect those wounds that are behind the latest twist in the unfolding story of the ten year challenge.

The excitement for the #10yearchallenge is compelling me to think that it can be an another scam…

Some experts said that your face identity through your photo is stolen. About 5.5 Million users have posted photos using this hashtag.

HOW IT WILL COST YOU..?

Earlier smartphone require pin or password to unlock which later overtake by fingerprint scanning. Now with the development of technology now you have to just  look at the screen of your phone and it will be unlocked using your facial identity. Not for unlocking Facial Identification technology is used for making payment, paying bill, transfer money. Through this campaign, the machine working on the Artificial Intelligence (AI) will get two pictures of a person, with a difference of 10 years. With the help of these, it will be easy for the machine to understand how much and how the face of that person changes in 10 years. It is possible to create such an algorithm by studying such data on a large scale, with the help of a person’s 10-year-old image to get an accurate estimate of today’s appearance. This can be a way to steal your identity in a way.

WHO RAISE VOICE AGAINST THIS CHALLENGE..

The author, Kate O’Neill, questioned the motive behind this whole campaign in his post. They say that on the name of this campaign people are unknowingly handing over a certain type of data to major technology companies. Kate is a well-known name in the field of technology and technical writing. So, after expressing their suspicions on the challenge, many experts have also started to suspect it.
